One of the first things you should consider is how much it costs to upgrade your traditional lock. After all, a smart lock costs a lot more than the standard-issue lock you can pick up at the local hardware store. The LaView smart deadbolt lock is a complete lock assembly that replaces your interior deadbolt, latch, and strike. It’s well made, looks beautiful on any door and of a solid construction. A thumb turn knob enables manual operation, and a removable (magnetic) cover hides the enclosure for the four AA batteries on the top of the knob. The lock also pair with a mobile app that allows you to lock and unlock doors with a simple icon tap. The app is also really useful at managing all your data and authorized users, and why not, to also set some temporarily access for guests. The brushed aluminum black color will definitely make this deadbolt look nice and stylish once installed on your door, which is also another nice touch in my opinion. This device comes with assorted mounting screws and hardware, and an installation & user guide. The smart-lock performed wonderfully in my tests. It responded instantly to the app entries, plus it operated smoothly and relatively quietly, which is always a good plus. Keep in mind though that if the lock is in Bluetooth-enabled mode, you have to be within range (around 40 feet) to control it. **UPDATE**--- i changed my review from 1 star to 4 because of the company's customer service. They sent me another lock, and this one worked. Angela answered all my questions. I had issues with calibration and she helped me out with them. I'm glad they have good customer service. The lock works just fine! -----I had high hopes for this device however I ended up ordering it twice because the first time it failed to turn on. I followed the instructions and the video provided perfectly and everything went smooth. I made sure the batteries were brand new when I inserted them, I even tried switching the batteries a couple times buying multiple Brands making sure they weren't rechargeable batteries just like instruction said. The lock still didn't turn on. So I returned it and I ordered a new lock. Same exact thing happened. I know I can't be doing anything wrong because I followed the video instruction, unless the video is wrong then it is very bad luck that I thought two devices that were faulty And did not turn on. On top of that the second device that I ordered was used, it came in a bubble wrap instead of its original container . So that discouraged me even more from ordering a third one just to see if I could get lucky . I have so many cameras from this company that I wanted this lock to add to my addition because the cameras work so well. Unfortunately that was not the case. I was a little worried about getting this but I was truly surprised. I had bought an August lock for my back door during Thanksgiving. Anyone that would have shopped for remote locks knows that August is the gold standard. I found LaView to be as good as my August lock. It was easy to install, the video instruction was short and super easy to follow. It was my 16-year old who installed it. It took him about 10 minutes. The app was also quite easy to use and I was able to add the lock and I could instantly get notifications when the lock was used. I also get notifications on my Apple watch. The unit came with the Gateway that allows you to connect to your network. The gateway did not come with instructions on how to install but it was quite intuitive to install through the app. This is going to be super helpful since my kids come through the garage all the time and they don't always take their keys. It was easy to add each family member to the app. So far, I am super impressed with this lock and it cost me less than half of what I paid for the August lock. Try as I might I attempted to make every feature functional. It was like a square peg in a round hole, Sure it works if you pound it in with something like Thor's Hammer but then you wont have any pegs. The Lock functions great as just a lock, but when you add the glitchy App along with that Mesh Blue tooth, things get confusing and they shouldn't' be. One thing that i thought was funny but others did not was that anyone can tell my Echo device to control the door. I think that's an Alexa App issued. Even though my Echo says he only responds to my voice. But then the app stopped working, but not before letting me know about the *Door status*, it always shows there is a problem. I was testing it on a garage to house door inside. It's super lightweight, relatively new and I know it does' need calibration. I wont know until the app resets itself. I thought maybe the batteries were low since it EATS 4 AA. But then again all of these devices' take 4AA. So no points taken off there. I never got this device to work at 100% but the new standard for Asian electronics it that it only work %50. I'm sure these results aren't typical. This one suffers of The China Syndrome*. Perhaps the item has some defective parts or slipped through the cracks during quality control. There's just too many things not up to par on this one. I wouldn't rely on it long term. Nor would I suggest purchasing one.

As someone who has experience with replacing door locks the installation was not difficult for me. Just make sure you follow the instructions carefully. The door lock works as it should. If you install it properly and make sure the deadbolt is not blocked by anything you should not have any problems. The APP works pretty well and the interface is intuitive. The electric motor in the lock makes some noise but it is acceptable. I am satisfied with this product and with LaView products in general. I would recommend it.
